  1. Thank you for the kind words at the end regarding America and the U.S. It’s actually true that as a MODERN NATION the United States is extremely young and has a very shallow history compared to the modern nations of Europe. There’s really no denying that. The large influence we have on the modern world certainly does not have anything to do with “us as human beings” – we’re really no different from humans anywhere else in the world. I think it is largely a matter of circumstance – we arose from a culture that emphasized individual freedom, and we found ourselves occupying a geographical region that is rather ridiculously resource rich and simultaneously protected by geography from all of our really plausible adversaries. It was a fortuitous combination that led directly to extreme prosperity and growth, so… here we are.

As far as past American cultures go, I think your message is exactly right – I think prehistoric American cultures certainly have their own contribution to make to our overall human legacy, and I really do appreciate the care you are taking to be thorough in your coverage. As usual, these last few podcasts have been awesome. In other episodes I’ve commented that you lean a bit hard into the historicity of the Bible, but that is literally the ONLY weakness I see in your offerings. And what makes it extra remarkable is that you don’t seem to profess any particular “credentialed expertise” in these areas – you present yourself as just a regular guy with a burning interest in the material. So I think what you’re accomplishing here is doubly remarkable given that. Keep up the great work – you’re much appreciated.
